Mamas Soy Sauce Broccoli
Oh LAWDY! Let me just tell y’all about this broccoli. Actually, first, I have a question to ask you…do you know anyone that HATES broccoli? Well, give them this. I PROMISE you they will eat it!
Beau and a friend of mine {Val} said they didn’t like broccoli…then they ate this. They now LOVE broccoli IF it is cooked THIS way. And… they aren’t the only ones! There are many more friends and family members that gave up HATING broccoli for this awesomely- awesome dish.
You know why? Because it is stir fried…NOT steamed. I’m sorry, but I am not one that likes very many steamed veggies. They have always tasted sort of bland {okay…A LOT of bland}.
This recipe adds GOOD fats {that we eat a lot of}, a non-gmo soy sauce alternative, and yummy seasonings!
Before I get down to it, first let me tell you a bit about this dish. This was my mommy’s dish.
She was an AMAZING cook. I like to say when it comes to the cooking department that ‘I get it from my momma!!’ My mommy {yes I will always call her that} actually died two years ago at the age of 50…from cancer. SHE is the reason my family has taken this homesteading/natural living/non-toxic journey {read more about it here}.
Well alright folks, let’s get down to it!

Ingredients:
- 1 Head of Broccoli {or 1 bag of broccoli florets}
- 3 Tablespoons Oil, Lard, or Grass-Fed Butter
- 1 Tablespoon Grass-Fed Butter {if you are using grass-fed butter from above, this will be IN ADDITION to}
- Dash of Pepper
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder or 1 garlic clove, chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt {optional}
- 1/4 teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper {optional}
- 1 Tablespoon of Soy Sauce {we use liquid aminos}
Instructions
- Cut the broccoli off the BIG stems. Wash. {If using frozen florets just cook from frozen}.
- Heat lard, oil, or butter over medium high heat
- While the lard is heating up put your pepper, salt, and garlic powder {or chopped garlic} into bowl
- Add broccoli and HALF of seasonings to pan. Stir. Add other half of seasoning mixture. Stir again
- Cook on medium high for 10 min, stirring every 1-2 min to keep from burning
- Turn to medium-low. Add 1 Tablespoon of butter. Continue to cook and stir for about 5 minutes.
- Turn broccoli to low. Add Soy Sauce. Cook for 1-2 minutes (or until desired doneness). We like it a little crunchy on the ends and soft on top) and Serve!
